My personal design style doesn't matter in today's real estate market. My job is to make my house feel spacious, draped in neutral colors, and prepared for a potential buyer. I need to 'set the stage'. My job was to CLEAN, clean and then clean some more. My job was to spark the imagination of some unknown person. It was to encourage a feeling of brightness, and to show the space in a way that the potential buyer could imagine their belongings here; simple and uncluttered. I tried very hard.
It took almost a week to make the table tops void of family photos. By the time the photographer arrived, all table tops were empty, with only a couple walls adorned by family. Putting them away brought on tears, but a quote kept running through my mind: "Perhaps power is letting go of the grip of the past and standing empty handed facing the future".
The more I read about 'staging a home', the more I believe it is the right choice for today's world. I can't let my emotions drive this particular part of the move; I must train my mind to be stronger than the emotions. I can do this. But I have to give up control and let faith be my driver.
