The saying brings forth a new narrative. It is not about ME, but about WE. By making life about community we strive to create a community of kindness, helping others to get involved and take action. The words sound so simple but hold a much deeper meaning. Community, whether that is within your household, your town, your political views or your place of employment, is enabling people to do good through their everyday choices.
Of course the truth is, we can have a far greater impact for both ourselves and others when we focus on 'a collective' and not just our own well-being. The quote reminded me of our Parkinson's Community here in Durango. Every person is walking the PD path differently, experiencing different symptoms, reacting to similar drugs in a new or varied way, but always strengthened by community. The reason community is so important is not just so that you can impact others, but so they can impact you!
WE ALL DO BETTER WHEN WE ALL DO BETTER
We cannot seek achievement for ourselves and forget about progress and prosperity for our community…Our ambitions must be broad enough to include the aspirations and needs of others, for their sakes and for our own.” Cesar Chavez
