Given my love for swinging, I did think that was brilliant! What images come to mind when you think of a swing? Of course there are all the crazy childhood images of daring exploits; leaping from the swing at the highest possible moment, double swinging, face to face with a friend, twisting the ropes/chains and then the rush of the un-twirl and the 'underdog' when someone gives you a push and they run beneath the swing while you are at the forward limit of the arc.
But as a grownup? It is about slowing down. It is a time to sit quietly, quite the opposite of your childhood antics. It is comfort, calm, relaxation and a glorious excuse to just sit and be. The gentle rocking helps you focus… on your book, your prayer, your conversation, the quiet. It is a space to
"Breathe, just breathe
Come and rest at My feet
And be, just be
Chaos calls but all you really need
Is to just breathe"
Perahps in a few months you can come sit with me…and swing.
