So what is family? From that brief telling it is many things, many people, many emotions. With each grouping I felt safe and able to depend on support, structure and protection. As siblings we always had someone looking out for us. Families are imbalanced systems, imperfect. In mine, we took on roles of function, or dysfunction if you will.
Every family has obstacles. When blending two families who have done life differently up until the new household dynamic, there can be a few extra hurdles. I am certain we had our share, but at this point in life, I see only trust and love in one another. Think about the function of a kitchen blender. It mixes and purees and combines the food into a new substance, not always recognizable from the original ingredients. We are like that as siblings. We all lost bits and pieces and gained the newness of life together. Of course running deep is the original blend, the threesomes; the Bocks and the Listons. Now, in our 60s we see a family with six siblings, a joy to be a part of! For each sibling I have only love.
