Well, this has absolutely nothing to do with our remodel, but everything to do with 'cool'. My cousin Dottie lives on Cape Cod and posted an article about Nantucket on her FB page. It is about slurpee waves hitting the shores a few days ago. They are amazing. So now I have learned how to add a link… slowly but surely I will figure this out!

Our great electrician/friend Wayne and our stone wall builder, now helper Matt spent the last 2 days running wires, installing can lights, moving center light box to the new center and putting in switches. Done!
So much has happen is just three days! Thank you Jay for your vast organization. All the floors and cupboards are covered and protected. All cupboards out, old soffit out and new built, decisions on how the two ends of kitchen will be defined, counters out and covered ready to be reinstalled, new wall joists up, floor extended and wires strung & marked and all is ready for todays electrical work. The guys worked hard today. All cabinets are out, soffits are gone, all lights gone and the wall is gone. They have cut back carpeting for the floor extension.
Russ took one photo earlier in the day and I got one when I got home. By then it was quite foggy and with all the lighting gone, it is a dark picture. They cleaned up beautifully and they are ready for more extraordinary work tomorrow. Can't wait! Russ is 78 today! Here he is with his sister Jane on a recent visit to see her. He is wearing his father's top hat… a must for a young man in his 20s on a European tour!
Oh my gosh… what a day! CRAZY! Colorado has been in perpetual spring with everyone praying for snow and I think we got 2 months worth in one day. Yesterday I cleared the decks, steps and walk of a foot of snow. It was clean when I came in the guest house to make dinner. This morning there was another foot and a half! I cleared that away before I left for work. Jay called to say he was putting chains on and would be here a bit later than expected; he lost one chain over shooting the drive. Having overshot he had trouble getting in (I wasn't there and don't know the particulars, but it wasn't good). They unhooked the trash trailer, Russ got out the tractor and got the trailer in the drive. Honestly it was crazy here today. Russ plowed a neighbor's drive (jeep with chains) and came to a standstill because too much snow was under the jeep. … that's how the day began. But by the time I got home from work a lot had been accomplished. All this on a day that added several challenges. On top of the snowy beginning, one workman couldn't get here because of snow and one had to leave early. Yah for day one!!!!! We are on our way.
Oh… and when I got home I had another 6" of snow to shovel and more roof raking to do. It dawned on me this morning that I should introduce the builder… our friend Jay Hecker. We met him when he built our guest house. Another man was suppose to build the guest house, but life had it's own plan and he recommended Jay do the work. It was a great fit and we did not have to think twice to hire him again for this job. We are just thankful the timing for both of us worked out! So while he is creating a new kitchen for us, we are living in his handiwork at the guest house.
http://www.stellarjaydesigns.com I haven't figured out how to make Jay's web address active… I'll work on it. In the mean time you'll have to copy it into your browser. I'm taking a little break… I have been at this moving thing since 5am this morning and I'm exhausted. Many more trips up to the guest house with household goods we'll need while living there. I transferred things from the house frig up to the guest house frig. I emptied the standing water from the dishwasher so when it is removed we don't flood the floor. Then did several loads of laundry, brought bedding and towels up to the GH, cleaned floors, and generally spent the day schlepping. I helped Jay move furniture and covered it in plastic. Enough procrastinating, time for a few more loads… As I mentioned, the trucking company suggested delivery time was 2-6pm. They arrived at 10:15pm! Two very careful guys unloaded and stacked everything in our garage; no dents or blemishes on the boxes… so far so good. Today is delivery day for the cabinets. I am both excited and nervous. The trucking company says between 2 and 6pm…we'll be here, ready to fill the garage. This weekend I will move us up to the guest house for the duration of the project. How grateful I am that we don't have to live in the mess!
