With the Perins Peak Fire in the Rockridge Development right here in Durango, and in Virginia's backyard, I was pushed into action. I looked at smoke plumbs each time I drove into town. I prayed for those working the fire. Finally I wrote to the Perins Peak headquarters.
Hello,
My friend has a hot shot crew camped in her backyard. Are there ways our small group can support these folks with donations... snacks, gift cards, ???? Is there a place to deliver things or has the agency taken care of their needs.
Thank you
Linda
They responded:
Hi Linda,
Thanks so much for reaching out! You are welcome to visit the group with snacks and treats, but we have no official means of accepting gifts. If you do bring goodies, I recommend healthy food. They get so much junk food in fire lunches that they get pretty excited over veggies and fruit!
The fire crews are paid per diem to pick up food, so they should be good, but you are welcome to offer things to them. Thank yous are always loved!
Thanks so much
My small group of Sacred Sisters, City Market, an unknown woman who handed me $20.00 at the grocery store after hearing my story and my friend Donna all built a beautiful assortment of fruit and vegetables.
Then at check out another Hotshot Crew woman was behind me. I said "if it isn't too intrusive, could I ask how you got into fire fighting?" She assured me it was fine. "I was working for National Parks and not loving my job. My former boyfriend suggested I try this and I have been doing it for 15 years."
Thank God there are people who do jobs we can't fathom doing!
