I think if someone were to analyze my mess they would see some tool-like things like scissors, paper clips, pens and tape. There are some thumb tacks and a few hastily stuffed receipts. It's a garage of mostly unnecessary objects. Looking at the bottom drawer this morning I was embarrassed at the thought of the team coming in after my death and having to clear out miscellaneous objects, my own personal archive. I know how each thing ended up in there, but someone from the outside will likely not understand.
It was an awakening of sorts. I am most certainly of an age when I need to think about who will be cleaning up after me. I need to think if I might be embarrassed if a friend or neighbor were to come in my house and open one of my messy drawers (and NEVER EVER look in my dryer on party night!)
Maybe these few questions could help me discern my situation.
- What are 3 words I could use to describe what I see when I open the drawer?
- If I picked an object at random would I know how it got there or what its significance was?
- Can I find something in there that seems random and has been in there for ages and know why I saved it?
Perhaps I will try that little exercise in understanding my story. So... do you have a junk drawer or two?
