My young office partner Lauren (I think I am older than her gramma) showed me a few weeks ago how insert a link, but it was gently above my head. I wanted to add one to the previous post so I went to Weebly Help and hit pay dirt. I was able to insert a link! I was very proud of myself.
My initial reaction when I first realized I had a 'problem' was to ignore it. I was afraid on one level, annoyed on another, and astonished at what I perceived as a lack of interest in 'the way things are done'. It only took about a year (I'm a slow learner) to realize I needed to 'marry up' generational styles; a little my way, a little theirs. We can do this.
I most certainly do not have to make my WE generation into a ME approach. Our work culture is changing and we need to learn to be more accepting of change to allow for diversity. It is not one sided of course, they need to 'see' some of the benefits of face to face, of schmoozing, of making the person before them feel they are the only thing/person that matters at this very moment.
I am grateful for Lauren, Stacey, Ely, Kristin, Alan, Tim, Erin, Reulon, and Celia. These folks keep me focused on being a part of today's world. It is a place they will most likely not even fathom being a part of until they become the older generation.
