Many people are shy of writing their own thoughts in a card and prefer a card, like a Hallmark version, that says it all for you. Sometimes a card will give you 'direction' allowing you to embellish the thought on the blank inside. Such a card arrived in my mailbox. The front was a glorious photo of sunflowers
That is precisely where we live, in a neighborhood of kindness and care. People sit on front porches, walk their dogs, ride their bikes, and never hesitate to wave or stop for a chat. It is community. It is the very best of the historic, traditional neighborhood and packaged in a small community which will eventually be 40 houses. As we have never had a neighbor before, my heart is happy knowing I can truly count of my neighbors. We are a wonderful mix of young families, young singles, older singles, retired folks, and part-timers.
There is a town in New Mexico that has a sign as you enter that boasts the population "1000 Happy Residents and 1 Curmudgeon". I guess you could say that is an apt description of Estancia as well. I have nicknamed one household 'The Moles'. They have lived there for 3 or 4 months. In all that time they have never raised their shades, never sat on their porch (in daylight) and spoken with only 1 neighbor that I know of. They work from home and never seem to leave the property; I suspect they shop at Walmart after dark. I have had one 2 second 'spotting' of each person in all that time. Moles tolerate high levels of darkness and these folks seem to as well. They are either extreme introverts or working at some clandestine job. Hmmmm. It's too bad... they are missing the parties!
