What's a memory? Why don't we take notice until it begins to disappear? Is it human nature to live in the moment? Everyone forgets things, but it is when all that encoded information that has been stored in the brain disappears bit by bit that we become concerned; for whatever reason the information cannot be accessed, it's missing.
We are in a tenuous place in time. When Russ forgets a name, a place, that he has in fact eaten dried apples many times before, is it because of Parkinson's or aging? Does it even matter? Our bodies are miracles and in the years of walking in them we loose site of just how amazing they are. We can 'see' a broken hand, but the broken heart, brain or immune system are buried and the subtle shifts aren't detected until they are beyond repair. But that's the base of degenerative disease, the slow degradation until the deep reality bares witness. The reason any of this matters is that it takes conscious adjustment on both our parts. Loosing one's memory interferes with daily routines and at this point routine is hugely significant. Russ has always been a man of pattern/routine. Muscle memory is imbedded even if it is not conscious. We will start there each day.
And I can remind myself as I move through the daily routine of the importance of memories.
Memories
Here's to the one's that we got
Cheers to the wish you were here, but you're not
'Cause the dreams bring back all the memories
Of everything we've been through
Close to the ones here today
Close to the ones that we lost on the way
'Cause the dreams bring back all the memories
And the memories bring back, memories bring back you
There's a time that I remember, when I did not know no pain
When I believed in forever, and everything would stay the same
Now my heart feel like December when somebody say your name (ay, ay)
'Cause I can't reach out to call you, but I know I will one day, yeah
Everybody hurts sometimes
Everybody hurts someday, yeah
But everything gon' be alright
Go and raise your voice and say, ay
Here's to the ones that we got
Cheers to the wish you were here, but you're not
'Cause the dreams bring back all the memories
Of everything we've been through
Close to the ones here today
Close to the ones that we lost on the way
'Cause the dreamsbring back all the memories
And the memories bring back, memories bring back you
Doo doo, doo doo, doo doo
Doo doo, doo doo, doo doo, doo doo
Doo doo, doo doo, doo doo doo
Memories bring back, memories bring back you
There's a time that I remember when I never felt so lost
When I felt all of the hatred was too powerful to stop (ooh, yeah)
Now my heart feel like an ember and it's lighting up the dark
I'll carry these torches for ya that you know I'll never drop, yeah
Everybody hurts sometimes
Everybody hurts someday, ay ay
But everything gon' be alright
Go and raise your voice and say, ay
Here's to the ones that we got
Cheers to the wish you were here, but you're not
'Cause the dreams bring back all the memories
Of everything we've been through
Close to the ones here today
Close to the ones that we lost on the way
'Cause the dreams bring back all the memories
And the memories bring back, memories bring back you
Doo doo, doo doo, doo doo
Doo doo, doo doo, doo doo, doo doo
Doo doo, doo doo, doo doo doo
Memories bring back, memories bring back you
Doo doo, doo doo doo doo
Doo doo, doo doo, doo doo, doo doo
Doo doo, doo doo, doo doo doo
Memories bring back, memories bring back you
Doo doo, doo doo doo doo
Doo doo, doo doo, doo doo, doo doo
Doo doo, doo doo, doo doo doo
Memories bring back, memories bring back you
Here's to the ones
Cheers to
Memories bring back, memories bring back you
Here's to the ones here today
Close to the ones
Memories bring back, memories bring back you
