But the most fun was seeing the porch railing installed as we drove into the development. It closed in an image for me, creating the calm dream of friends & family enjoying one another's company, of a lazy afternoon read in my porch swing and the railings holding in my sense of peace, 'capturing' the sense of calm. It made me very happy to see they were installed. Walking in the house I was greeted by two workmen and was half way across the floor before I saw/felt/walked on floors! Two huge surprises in one day...love it!
For 10+ weeks, building at our house has been at a frenzied pace. Each week we have been astonished with the progress. This week brought our very first glitch in the project. I am grateful how easily (well from my perspective, but probably not the cabinet guys or the electricians) the situation was resolved. The glitch? The kitchen island was too far into the hallway area (open floor plan) because the pendent lights had been installed in the original plan location and not the revised plan location. A small blip in a large plan. Is that not a celebration? A celebration of working together, a celebration of building Russ a house he can move through, a celebration that is blameless, but 'working for the common good'. It was a disappointment for those having to make the revisions of course, but they accommodated my wishes. When we were arrived yesterday, the lights moved, the island moved, the cabinets ALL in, and all the closet shelving painted. But the most fun was seeing the porch railing installed as we drove into the development.
