Choirs had to rethink rehearsals and performances in light of the risks. Thank goodness for the internet, allowing the show to go on! Many choirs have adapted to digital rehearsals and video performances. I love watching them.
That may be mesmerizing to watch and sound rather simple, but in fact it is labor intensive to produce. Each virtual choir has the tech wizard behind them with the right editing software and sound capabilities to combine dozens (more?) of solo recordings into a seamless choir performance, synchronizing everything with endless amounts of patience and attention to detail.
It probably makes a singer feel a bit naked singing alone in their living room or kitchen with noises like outside traffic or laughter from the other room or a doorbell ringing. With in-person rehearsals you have the safety of the crowd. If you are not perfectly prepared, you can skate by unnoticed. Singing alone in your room requires a different kind of preparation with everyone pulling their weight. In the end, making music this way is better than not making music at all.
Each day more and more virtual choirs appear on the web and I have enjoyed every one, from children's choirs to worldwide choirs. Check out these 12 amazing choirs...
