My personal playbook is 'cozy' and it changes from year to year. I have been slowly building my decoration collection since I graduated from college, but I tend even more towards simplicity, now leaving almost half of my decorations in the bin.
I have never really been a keep up with the Jones' kind of Christmas follower as far as decorating goes. Most years we cut down a tree. For several years we had a birch sapling tree that Russ made; a masterpiece. I have never been one for glitz, so basic and country was perfect. Russ took 6 birch saplings and built a tee pee, lashing them at the top. We cut long strands of grapevine and wrapped the frame. There were wonderful curls of vine giving fabulous dimension. Tiny white lights and ornaments could be seen from all sides.
There is something about coming home to a decorated house with touches of Christmas scattered about. It lightens my mood and puts a smile on my face. I am selective these days, only putting out things that bring memories and gladdens my heart.
And least we/I forget, Christmas represents hope, peace and joy. It's about anticipation and wonder. As challenging as my last couple of years have been, my wish is to find a bit of comfort and to acknowledge the blessings and love surrounding me.
PEACE ON EARTH & IN MY HOME
