We all judge others. It's a fact of life that sometimes we display an unflattering side of ourselves. A neighbor's child came to visit the other day and was less than demure. She was rambunctious, smart, funny, slightly out of control and adorable. Her mom was disappointed.
This is my 5 year old story of greediness. All I have to do is remember this hand-me-down tale of greed on my part and it shifts my view of rambunctious or ungrateful children.

The memory is a reminder that children will be children. Of course rules and discipline are necessary, but an overtired, rambunctious child can be forgiven just as a selfish, greedy little one can. Turbulent waves of behavior are part of life, just as clear parenting and expectations. I am certain there were repercussions for my behavior as the story has stayed with me a lifetime.
We all demonstrate unwelcome behaviors; children, teens, adults and elders. I like the quote "The past is to prove that no one is perfect and the future is to prove that everyone can change!". I must say I learned my lesson with my kitchen and have not shown disappointment in a gift again (that I recall!).
