Be assured though, Parkinson's is an almost never ending storm and the longer one endures the journey, the likelihood of a hurricane means you will be weathering another storm.
In reading that quote I see that our immediate storm is MSA and I am absolutely certain I am a new person already! 2020 has been rough, a collective depression for our country. It isn't just MSA/Parkinson's disease, because Covid put the cherry on top...so to speak. Then there's climate change, fires, hurricanes, receding shoreline, political and racial tension, economic collapse and loneliness. And bigger than politics as a whole is the upcoming presidential election. Sigh. Our world is dark and murky right now. Can we weather the storm? Do we have the patience? Can we allow ourselves to breathe?
- a long slow breath in through the nose
- fill lower lung
- fill upper lung
- hold breath to the count of 3
- slowly exhale through pursed lips
- consciously relax muscles in face, jaw, shoulders and stomach
- repeat several times
In the midst of the storm a calming breath allows us to refocus. The rhythm of nature, the rhythm of Parkinson's doesn't stop for anyone. The cycle of life doesn't stop. But in the calm we can find peace & patience to weather the storm.
