"his target was the hypocrisy of suburban life"
The term comes from Greek culture and a hypocrite was an actor, someone 'pretending' in order to entertain. Today, it has morphed into someone who follows an impulse to be seen as righteous and honorable and inwardly or in private ignoring the matters of the heart.
I am thinking that a hypocrite is not someone who makes a mistake or doesn't live up to what they believe... that is called humanity. We all fall short or done or said things we wish we hadn't. All of us have had to apologize.
But then Eric (pastor) suggested we think of it this way. Imagine we each have a cartoon bubble over our head.
My suggestion for your day is to consider the thoughts that are in you head throughout your day and wonder... is that in line with my values? Am I practicing what I preach? Am I honoring others with my lips AND my heart?
