A small example of this is living in a development that has an HOA. The structure of a Homeowners Association is to help maintain a clean and cohesive atmospheres in a neighborhood. At the base of that is community, living together in harmony. But what happens when those obligations are completely opposed to the way a household runs?
One would think that the homeowner had read the HOA rules before moving to the development. That unfortunately is not always the case. So what happens when your tolerance for those rules is in conflict? What happens when my interpretation is opposed to my neighbors way of doing life? What happens when neighbors begin 'talking' about the missteps of another? Do I bind myself with the herd? How do I decide?
In this culture of political unrest all the same questions can and should be asked as you evaluate a decision or situation. I am feeling thrust into a world of decision that I do not want to engage with. I do not want to become a member of a herd for the sake of ease. I have an obligation to myself and others to stand tall. I need to move past any sense of insecurity and think before I speak (those are mother's words, engrained in my world view).
Metaphorically speaking, let us not be lemmings, easily swayed by irrational thought or letting our fear (pronounced ignorance) speak. Be your own person, do your homework, work from the base of truth and honesty.
