Ah, but then they began putting chopped apricots into the mix. I do love a good fresh apricot, but in their recipe, they baked the apricots right in with the other ingredients and they became jaw breakers. I even went so far as picking them out before adding my yogurt, all the while KNOWING that was just rediculous.
This week I got back on track. It truly is simple to make your own! Prep is about 5 minutes and baking about 20. Of course the beauty of a simple recipe is that it's simple!
DIRECTIONS:
In a bowl put...
- 3 cups of oats
- 1/2 cup sesame
- 1 cup chopped nuts (1 kind? combination?)
- 1/2 cup sunflower seeds
Mix in a cup or small bowl
- 1/3 cup oil
- 1/3 cup maple syrup (or honey, but I prefer maple syrup)
- 1 tsp vanilla
- a titch of cinnamon
Pour this wet mixture over the oatmeal mixture, stirring as you go.
Pour this onto a cookie sheet.
Bake at 350 for 20 - 30 minutes.
I use a spatula and stir this every 5 minutes so it is a consistent roast.
Add when it comes out of the oven :
- 1 cup+ of chopped dates, raisins and/or cranberries. Use one or a mixture of them.
Voila! Cool and store in an airtight container.
