There were probably about 25 guests and 25 crew. We had our own state room, tiny, tucked up towards the bow, glorious mahogany bed, closet and drawers; a brass #10 plate on the door. The antiquity of everything sucked us in. Gimbaled trestle tables in the salon, a gimbaled coal stove in the galley, gas lanterns hanging on the walls of passageways, no showers unless you chose to climb the ratlines (ratlin's), dive overboard and rinse off with the hand pump on the deck (me, every day). The brass was polished daily, gleaming in the sunlight. Two large ice chests were filled and brimming, one with fruit and the other soft drinks and juice.
I have many photos on slides, but I just found them in the garage and I need to covert them. Until then I have pulled some off the web.
